European bison
- Features
The coarse-haired shaggy mane emphasises the animal's heavy front. Head is short and wide, body is stocky, with a hump on its back. The fur is dark brown. Bisons change their hair once a year, in spring or early summer.

Conspicuous wallowing sites.
- Habitat
Deciduous forests or mixed forests with predominantly deciduous trees and plains, also swampy forests.
- Size
Trunk length 250-270 cm, tail length about 80 cm, shoulder height 180-195 cm, body weight 800-900 kg (males), 500-600 kg (females), weight at birth about 30 kg.
